Webchat has moved

As of 1 July, our webchat has moved. Our new chat is more mobile-friendly and can be accessed by clicking the green chat button at the bottom of any page on our website. The chat button won’t appear when QLife is closed.

From July 2026, QLife’s phone and webchat systems are getting an upgrade!

The QLife system improvements have been directly shaped by service user feedback. They are designed to make QLife’s systems more accessible, user-friendly and give service users more choice in how to connect. We are bringing our phone and webchat systems together into a single platform to help ensure everyone who contacts QLife receives a consistent, seamless experience.

What is new for all service users?

  • A single queue for calls and webchats, ensuring fair access no matter how you prefer to contact QLife
  • Easier ways to give feedback

What is new for web chatters?

  • A new, more intuitive mobile-friendly system
  • When you start a chat, a bot will collect demographic information from you – you can decide how much you want to share. This bot is not AI, just a simple way of asking questions that help us to understand the needs of our communities and to improve our services
  • You can start to enter information into the thread before the chat starts, like the support you are looking for and any questions you might have; just keep in mind anything you write won’t be seen by a human until the peer supporter joins
  • You will be updated regularly on your position in the queue
  • Your thread will be accessible for 15 minutes after the chat ends, so you can copy and save any links or referral information provided by the peer supporter
  • Waiting time is capped at 45 minutes, the same as it is for calls; we do our best to reach everybody, however if your chat has not been answered within that time, the session will time out and you will need to rejoin the queue

What is new for callers?

  • You now have the option of requesting a callback, instead of waiting on the phone while you are in the queue. If you select this option, our system will ask you to enter your phone number and then call you back when you reach the front of the queue
  • Your number will only be used for this call and won’t be linked to future contacts. In situations involving serious or immediate risk, including risk of harm to minors, we may need to share information we have, including your phone number. You can read more at qlife.org.au/privacy
  • Waiting time is capped at 45 minutes, the same as it is for webchats; we do try to answer every call, however if we haven’t called you back within that time, the callback request will time out and you will need to rejoin the queue
We appreciate your understanding and patience whilst we all get used to the new system too! If you have questions or to report any glitches, please contact ask@qlife.org.au and we will be happy to help.
