"Where it’s sitting now is that part of me is like, yes I have marriage equality and that’s awesome. But I also think of people who are trans and other people who aren’t included yet. People were knocked. It still affects them. Hurtful things were said. When I feel strong enough I will say to them “When you said that last year, you have no idea how much it hurt”. I want to have an open and honest conversation on a level where that person doesn’t feel attacked like I did. It’s the hard road, but the better road. Doing that will stand for transparency, courage and empathy."
